I checked the tonnage records for mining on the Tug Fork in the early years.

1903 - 160,000 tons
1904 - 411,450
1905 - 747,160
1906 - 1,224,323
1907 - 1,260,666
1908 - 1,742,283
1909 - 2,234, 606
1910 - 3,488,530
1911 - 2,675,359
1912 - 4,201,538

It was't just USC&C mines.

USC&C No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 started shipping in 1903
USC&C No. 4, 5 and 7 started in 1904 along with Page Coal & Coke
USC&C No. 8 started in 1905
USC&C No. 10 and 11 and Jed C&C started shipping in 1907 along with Blackwolf C&C
USC&C No. 9 and 12 started in 1908 along with Central Poca No. 1
WV Pocahontas started shipping in 1909
Central Poca No 2 started in 1911
Jenkinjones No. 6 started shipping in 1912 with No. 7 and No. 8 opening in 1913.

By 1988 the Tug Fork mines had produced over 402 million tons of coal out of the approximate 1.4 billion tons of coal produced in McDowell County from 1888 through 1988.

WILL BE CAPABLE OF HOLDING 1000 CARS
------
Capacity of Wilcoe Yard More Than Double by Improvements to be Finished Within Week

The enlargement of the Wilcoe yard on the Tug River branch of the Norfolk and Western, will be completed in about a week, and the capacity of the yard is a good deal more than doubled. Its old capacity was about 350 cars and when the improvement is finished the yard will be capable of holding 1000 cars. The company is working a force of 300 men and rushing the enterprise rapidly to completion.
Greater car capacity at the Wilcoe yard was rendered necessary on account of the increased output of the United States Coal and Coke Company. To facilitate the handling of the company's business, the railroad people had to make this provision.
