INTERLOCKING SWITCHES ON NEW DOUBLE TRACK
------
Distance Between Welch and Hull Shortened Mile and a Half--Several Tunnels on Line

At 1:35 yesterday afternoon the interlocking plant switches on the double track between Welch and Hull were connected up, and the switches are now being operated by wires leading from switch towers. The new piece of track, which is twenty-six miles in length was completed some ten days ago, but the machinery for handling the switches had not been fully installed at that time.
The purpose of the new track was to shorten the line at that point, and the distance gained is a mile and a half. There were several tunnels to dig and a lot of rock work to do, which made the job a lengthy one. However, it is conceded by railroad men to be an excellent piece of construction.
The Norfolk and Western is rapidly closing up the gaps in double track west of Bluefield, and it will not be long before this part of the system will be entirely double tracked.
