NEW BRANCH ROAD

>From Mullins [sic] to Pemberton--Speculation as to Builders


    A branch road is being constructed from Mullins to Pemberton, up the Winding Gulf route.  The work is being done so as to facilitate the opening of the mines in that vicinity.  It is rumored in local circles that the new road is being built by stock-holders of the Norfolk and Western who expect to dispose of it to the Norfolk and Western as they did the Pocahontas and Western running from Pocahontas to Boissevain.

[I don't know why the reporter thought that the Virginian's Winding Gulf branch would be sold to the N&W.  Nevertheless, it is interesting to read that N&W stockholders reportedly built the Pocahontas and Western and then sold it to the N&W.]
