IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Virginian Builder at Princeton
H. H. Rogers and his party arrived at Princeton shortly after noon yesterday. Criminal Court, which was in session adjourned for several hours that the attendants might visit the depot and see the big financier. He was on a tour of inspection of the new Virginian Railway.

Making Offices of Hotel
Work has already been commenced on the re-modeling of the old Bluefield Inn, which will be reconstructed and converted into the general offices of the Norfolk and Western. The improvements on the building will amount to about $10,000 and when completed it will be one of the best arranged office buildings on the system. When the new offices are finished and the various departments transferred to it, the company will commence to tear down the present building known as the division office, as it has long been inadequate and out of date.

[I am attaching image ns4630 from the Va. Tech image database showing the Bluefield Inn, before conversion into offices. The passenger station is across Princeton Ave. on the right. This view is before streetcar tracks were laid along Princeton Ave. in 1904.]

To Improve Summer Resort
At a stockholders meeting of the Tip Top Iron Lithia Springs Company it was decided to expend about $10,000 on improvements on the grounds and buildings and to make all necessary changes which will add to this popular resort's attractions. Additions will be made to the present hotel, affording greater accommodations, and the comfort of the guests is assured. Chas. H. Johnson, manager of the Mapleshade [sic] Inn at Pulaski for nine years, will manage the hotel this season, which insures good service.
------
[The N&W ran special trains to the opening of this resort last season, and probably got a lot of resort business on its regular Clinch Valley passenger trains. The Maple Shade Inn was another N&W hotel.]
