The information suggest that by some point in '44 the first group of heavyweight Pullman cars were Pullman green again and in '49 a second group of cars with the exception of the Knickerbocker from the first group were possibly shadowlined. The information contained in the Pullman Project database and the "shadowline" shop drawings indicate that a total of one 12/1, and four 10/2/1 Pullman cars were possibly shadowlined.

Based on the list that I have, the Tufts College and Salem College cars were Pullman Diagram 65, plan #4042B, listed as 10 Section/2 dbl bdrm/1 compartment.

The Wofford College and Winthrop College cars were Pullman Diagram 98, plan 4042A, also 10 Section/2 dbl bdrm/1 compartment.

The Knickerbocker is Plan 3410G, a 12/1 Pullman, Pullman diagram 5. This is the only car of which I have seen photograhic evidence of being shadowlined. The other four c cars are listed in one of the "shadowline" shop drawings.

Probably not. This far past the fact, I don't remember the details of the source. Pat and I were trying to find out what we could about the 10-3 cars, and I think he came up with this information. But I am not certain how he came by it. Later than that, I found the picture in Dressler's files, which confirmed the information Pat gave me. What we didn't know was how long the aluminum paint job lasted. In other words, "what color were the cars in say, 1948?" Your information suggests that they were back in Pulman green by then. Jim,
Any chance of following up on this?

Sorry, but I was quoting from information given me by Pat Ryan. I haven't seen the diagram myself. Jim

Jim,
In the '98 article, you mentioned that the Pullman diagram called for two coats of "aluminum bronze" paint with black lettering and that the painting diagram gives dimensions for cars of two different plans: 3410-G and 3411-E. Can you lay your hands on this diagram?
