The owner stated that he had to take quite a few pieces off to pare the weight down to what his permit would allow him to transport.  I don't know much about the interstate overweight / oversize load process, but his implication was that it would have been much more expensive to move 917 as found.  Perhaps someone else on the list can fill in the details on oversize load transport.

As far as the M2 lead truck (my father mentioned this previously; apologies for the redundancy), his idea is to use it as the foundation for a mocked-up tender.

them. And the bell is a little comical, but guess the original has long since 
been stolen. One photo suggests that he took a lead truck from one of the M2's 
for good measure. I can't figure why he cut off so many pieces before moving it, 
but he seems to have put everything he got back in place. This ain't Strasburg, 
but then, the 475 was more complete when they got it. At least one W2 still
