I'm working on some publicity material for The Western Virginia Railroad Preservation Society's fundraising campaing to try to save the remaining engines from the old Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal yard, and I just need to check a few facts about the history of the place. Can anyone tell me...
What year was N&W 475 removed from the yard?
What were the numbers of the two Y6b's that lasted into the 1970's in Sam Golden's other yard? Also, did that yard have a name (either proper or common) to tell it apart from the South Jefferson Street yard (something better than simply "Sam Golden's other yard")?
What year were the Y6b's scrapped? I want to say 1976 but I need confirmation on that.
Speaking of the TWVRPS fundraising campaign, I have made some updates to the Lost Engines of Roanoke site, including a link to the TWVRPS online donation page. For anyone who believes that these historic locomotives should be saved, the time to act is now. More information can be found on the society's website, www.wvrps.org.
