CONTRACT LET FOR ADDITION TO DEPOT
-----
Work Will be Commenced Within a Short Time and Will be Pushed to Completion.
------
FINISH NEW TRAIN SHED WITHIN A MONTH
------
Reports were circulated yesterday about town that the Norfolk and Western railroad had let the contract for building the new addition to the depot to a well known firm of contractors.
While this report could not be officially confirmed last night, the Daily Telegraph representative was able to learn that this work would be commenced in a short time. It would be well under way now if it were not for the fact that the Norfolk and Western railroad has experienced a great deal of difficulty in securing a contractor who would undertake the work. The reason for this is that the contractors have so much work on hand that they do not feel able to accept new work which must be rushed to completion.
The present plans for the addition to the depot consist of a sixteen and one-half foot extension on the west side and a forty-nine and one-half foot addition on the east side of the present depot. This work will be finished this year and $15,000 has been appropriated to complete it.
The architecture will correspond with the outline of the present depot.
It is expected that the new train shed will be finished within a month. All the lumber and other material is on hand and a full complement of men are rushing the work to completion.
Since the scale house was moved, the passenger trains have been given much more room. The new shed will protect passengers who use the west bound trains and is a much needed improvement.

[The Bluefield newspaper had editorialized for some time prior to this urging a better depot for Bluefield.]
