Passenger Car at Station

The new building across the tracks from the N&W passenger station and visible from the O. Winston Link Museum (this makes it "on topic") was originally announced to cost $46 million, but the latest announcement is $66 million.

A 12/29/07 New York Times article stated, "A $3 million endowment for operations has also been acquired. City, state and federal governments are providing $12 million [The city's share was $4 million]. The city also donated the museum’s one-acre site, valued at $1.1 million."

And then there are future operating deficits....

That's the new art museum. Or nauseum, depending on your point of view. I do have one question about it. Last I heard it cost 30 some million dollars. Is that figure correct? And how much of that money came from the City of Roanoke, if any? That's two question, sorry. <G>.

Good photos, Skip, but what is the monstrosity in the background above the rail equipment?

Craig,

I saw it also so I went to the O. Winston Link and investigated. The Business Car is NS Buena Vista. The occasion is a special with many foreign dignitaries that NS is showing the new electronic braking system. Just east of the attached photo was two NS locos (9763 and 7649 which is equipped with system) and two of the new NS coal hoppers with the system. They gave a demonstration to the riders of the system before the special departed for Bluefield and other sights for them. Photos attached
