GOOD STREETS WHAT THE TOWN MOST NEEDS NOW

    Although nothing definite can be learned from reliable sources it may be asserted that Princeton will be the division point between the Tidewater railway and the Deepwater railway.  These two companies are owned by H. H. Rogers, of New York.  It is expected that the Deepwater railroad will run to Princeton from which point transfers will be made to and from the Tidewater.
    The Tidewater railroad company has bought at Princeton over 15,000 acres of land on which it is expected that they will build.  This land was purchased at prices ranging from $65 to $100 per acre.  One hundred and five acres were bought at $100 per acre, the vendor inserting in the deed a clause to the effect that it was understood that he should retain a half interest in the 105 acres.  At this rate the railroad people practically paid at the rate of $200 per acre for the 105 acres.
    This land is valuable for no other purpose than for building, so it appears that this must be the object of the company.  Should this be the real object of the railroad company a great future is assured for Princeton.  Princeton is so situated that she has an immense tract of practically level land in the corporation which gives her a great chance for rapid growth.
    The county seat at the present time feels the impetus of the incoming railroad, as is evidenced by the prosperity of the stores.  The two banking institutions are in a most healthy condition and business in general is very brisk.  Real estate transfers are numerous and in all cases good prices are realized.  Four deeds of transactions made that day were recorded at the clerk's office on Monday.
    What the town needs most of all, however, is good streets.  Improvements along this line would be greatly appreciated and would no doubt pay the town.
