Hi Jack :

Vardo & Shomo are the same piece of real estate. N&W entered from the south & called the yard Vardo, the Pennsy entered from the north & called it Shomo.

Shomo was the name it was known by the local folks till the Pennsy went out of business & NS became the only occupant.

I have heard the yard was owned by the N&W & Pennsy rented from them. (Maybe some of the other historians will respond to your question).

found  answer to this old  Question.....   in  Hagerstown

I  found a copy of the  "Diagram of  Facilities covered by
agreement"  between  the  PRR & N&W Ry. Co. dated M arch 26, 
1928

If  Interested   in a copy   of  Diagram   It is    8"  X 14" legal size
