The materials from Reid's collection that were sold at train shows were sold at the request of, and on behalf of his widow by several of his friends. I don't believe any part of his personal photographic collection was sold then or has been sold since. (At least not sold in a public forum.) There was once talk of Reid planning to donate it to Elon College, his alma mater, but if he planned to do so, he did not take the necessary steps before his death. I know his close friends were concerned that no one take advantage of his widow, as has happened way too many times in this hobby.
