MANY SHOP MEN ARE DISMISSED
Those Who Are Retained Will Be Given Forty Five Hours a Week in Future
Fifty per cent of the men working in the shops of the Norfolk and
Western railroad were dismissed yesterday. No statement has been
given but from the general offices of the road as to just what this
discharge means.
In all, about eight hundred men are now out of work and are totally
unprovided with work for the future. This is pursuant to an order
issued from the office of General Manager Maher, Monday.
Both General Manager Maher and President L. E. Johnson are out of the city.
