N&W Employee Killed at Shenandoah
SHENANDOAH, March 11 (AP) A 56-year-old Norfolk and Western
Railroad worker died early today of injuries suffered when he was run
over by three diesel units of an N&W train in company yards here
nearly two hours earlier.
Police identified the victim as John E. Whitehead of Shenandoah.
He was employed as a helper carman. Authorities said there were no
witnesses to the accident and that apparently Whitehead failed to see
the train in the fog and mist that covered the area late Monday
night. They said he apparently was walking through the yards at the time.
Other yard workers found him at 11 p.m.
