Norfolk & Western Furloughs 20 More

   Twenty workers in the Norfolk and Western Railway's Roanoke shops 
locomotive department will be laid off at the close of business Thursday.
   More than 800 N&W employes have been furloughed in the Roanoke area 
since last November.
   A spokesman for the railway, which posted notices of the layoffs 
yesterday, said the men are being furloughed because maintenance work has 
declined during the business recession.
   Lessened demand for coal has been the chief factor in the N&W employe 
cutbacks.
