This will largely be of help to those people who have a library card from one of the Roanoke Valley public libraries, but the Salem, VA, public library has the Sanborn insurance maps on line for some 140 Virginia cities and towns. Each city or town has a set of maps for each of several dates (Roanoke has 10 sets for 10 dates from 1886 thru 1955), and each set has multiple sheets (Roanoke's 1955 set has 79 sheets).
A Salem library card for non-Roanoke Valley residents is reportedly about $16, and the Salem library contact info can be found at www.salemlibrary.info.
Probably public libraries in other Virginia cities and in other states would have Sanborn insurance maps available in a similar manner.

Shenandoah, VA"
Jim,
I don't know what a Sanborn Map looks like, however, there is some type of map in the Archives that does show Shenandoah, Va., the yard layout and some properties close to the RofW.
