John P. Fishwick Named Vice President of N&W

  John P. Fishwick will become a vice president of Norfolk and 
Western Railway Saturday.
  The company yesterday announced that Fishwick, the railroad's 
general counsel, 41-year old native of Roanoke, had been appointed by 
the board of directors. Fishwick has been head of N&W's legal 
department since September 1956, when Stuart T. Saunders was promoted 
to executive vice president.
   Fishwick is a graduate of Jefferson High School, Roanoke College 
and Harvard Law School. After two years with a New York law firm he 
joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, served in both the Atlantic and Pacific 
theaters and left the Navy in 1945 as a lieutenant commander.
   Fishwick had been in N&W's legal department more than 12 years. He 
joined N&W as assistant to the general solicitor in 1945, became 
assistant general solicitor in 1947, was promoted to assistant 
general counsel in 1951, and was made general solicitor in 1954.
   He and his family live in Salem. Fishwick is a former president of 
the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce.
