Coal Loadings Hit By Rough Weather
Norfolk and Western Railway's coal loading last week totaled only
half of the loadings in the comparable week a year ago.
The total last week was 10,444 cars. A year ago it was 20,884 cars.
An N&W spokesman yesterday said snow and cold curtailed mine
operations in western Virginia and southern West Virginia and
movement of coal ships in the Hampton Roads area.
The breakdown by days last week: Monday, 1,256; Tuesday, 1,392;
Wednesday, 1,945; Thursday, 2,525; Friday, 2,853; and Saturday 473.
