PERSONALS AND BRIEFS
------
An extension of the Norfolk and Western railroad is being built from Blair, in Grayson County, to Grayson City, a distance of three and a half miles.
Bluefield Daily Telegraph
December 17, 1903
[Blair (later Cliffview) was on the North Carolina Extension, but I can find no information on Grayson City. The 1904 N&W Annual Report states that this line was extended 2.72 miles from Blair to Galax. There were no other branches from Blair, so the reporter's "Grayson City" was obviously Galax, and the reporter's "three and a half miles" was obviously excessive, because the line was never extended beyond Galax. There was a station along New River named Grayson, but it was 38 miles from Pulaski whereas Galax was at Mile 52. Also Galax was previously known as Bonaparte according to Webb's book on the N&W's North Caroline Branch. Finally a station at about Mile 48 on this line had the interesting name of Great Outburst.]
