The light you describe is a PL1 light box
that was the original style with yellow cone lenses.
Then came the PL2s probably the most common on the N&W
with a single yellow lens with a close up prism lens behind it.
Last came the PL3s a lot like the PL2s same reflector but has
a clear cone lens with a collared roundel behind it.
And remember Its fog penetrating yellow not amber on the N&W

I have a question on N&W's position light signals. This is a small detail but an important one for me because I am working to restore such a signal to the all amber configuration. I have seen some signal light heads (for lack of a better way to identify the actual individual light things) that have a colored cone protruding out and a clear lens behind it. I wonder when this practice started or was it that way all along?
