M. J. Caples Thinks Well of Road of Which He Is Manager

   Mr. N. D. Maher, general manager and vice-president of the Norfolk &
Western, and Mr. M. J. Caples, general manager of the South & Western
Railroad, passed through the city last night on Train No. 16. Mr Caples
said before leaving the city that the road his company is building will be
finished by the end of the year. He is very enthusiastic over the road and
says his company has the finest railroad in the country. He spoke
especially of the very low percentage of the grades of the new line, and
which will go up to Dante, where it will take the coal from the Clinchfield
Coal Company. The line will cross the Norfolk & Western's Clinch Valley
division at St. Paul.
