N&W in 1903 -- Eggleston Tunnel

The post card shows Eggleston #1. Haven't been to
Eggleston in 25 years or so, but N&W had plowed
a ditch across the track to the right. That was the
abandoned route to the old tunnel. Before the
barrier was there, one could drive an automobile
(in my case a pick-up truck) directly into the old
tunnel, but the only way out was to back out, because
the ceiling had collapsed.

Interesting to note that with the relocation of the tracks and undercutting of Eggelston #1 for the Heartland Corridor, the old tunnel is now the access road.
