Offices Not to be Closed

   A dispatch from Tazewell recently stated that the railway 
telegraph offices at Richlands, Coeburn, Fink and Toms Creek had been 
discontinued. It was further stated that all the warehouse men on the 
Clinch valley division had been dropped. A Bluefield, W. Va., 
dispatch stated last night that an official, however, claimed that 
the offices will not be discontinued.
   He said that the night force will, however, be dispensed with. All 
the stations mentioned are important in railroad circles. Richlands 
is the point where all the Seabord company's coal reaches the 
railroad, as also does the lumber from that section. Coeburn is the 
junction point to which all the coal from the operations at Toms 
Creek is shipped. There are several large operations at that point. 
Fink is the point to which all the coal from the thriving little 
mining village of Dante is shipped. This little town is one of the 
most up-to-date mining villages along the Clinch Valley. There are 
several good sized mines there which ship a large amount of coal. 
Toms Creek is at the head of the Toms Creek line and is the 
assembling point for three large operations. The coal from there is 
shipped to Coeburn, where it is forwarded over the Clinch Valley division.
   W. L. Becker will be the operator at Coeburn. P. C. Boyd, operator 
at Toms Creek, will be promoted and made operator and station agent 
at Cedar Bluff. R. Wright, agent at Fink, will be given the third 
trick at Norton. It has not yet been decided whether a change will be 
made at Tazewell, but it is expected that there will be one in four 
or five days. Regarding the warehousemen, a number have been laid 
off, but the services of all the men will not be dispensed with. At 
important points some will be reserved to handle the business.
