Using an on-line inflation calculator
(http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi) the round-trip excursion ticket
price from Norton to Atlantic City in 1903 would be around $405 in today's
dollars. From Roanoke it would be around $265.

ATLANTIC CITY AND SEASHORE RESORTS ON JERSEY COAST

On July 2, 16 and 30, Aug. 1, 8, and 27 and Sept. 10th, 1903, the
Norfolk and Western Railway will sell cheap excursion tickets to the above
resorts via Hagerstown and Philadelphia. The rate from Norton will be
$18.05, Bristol $16.30, Martinsville $13.50, Bluefield $14.95, Roanoke
$11.80 and correspondingly low rates from other stations; tickets limited to
sixteen days and are good to stop over at Philadelphia on return trip.
Through Pullman sleepers are operated daily trains Nos. 2 and 4 to
Philadelphia. Apply to nearest Ticket Agent for rates and additional
information. W. B. BEVILL, General Passenger Agent.
