intermodal on N&W/SOU passenger trains

Marty:
Never saw anything but passenger equipment on the  joint
trains -- but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
 
You might also be interested to know that Southern  ran
"Big John" covered hoppers behind Nos. 15-16,  The
Carolina Special.   D. W. Brosnan (remember him ?) justified
purchase of the cars by getting 10 revenue trips  per month out
of them between Barber Jct. and Knoxville.
