If you slept in the same bed night after night then yes you can and do get accustomed to train movements, but when you split time between a home bed and camp car beds, and your camp bed is constantly being moved to different and sometimes dangerous locations and mostly positiond near road crossings, and trains are blowing horns and roaring by at speeds up to 55mph only 6 feet from your head, you do not ever get used to it, It's been 12 years for me now and I still kringe when I hear a train coming while I'm in bed, and I love trains, but we are way close and personal than any house is to the rails.

As hard as it may seem it is rather easy to adapt to the sounds of a passing train at your window... I know because I use to live in a house that was almost on top of a busy mainline. It takes a little while but before you know it the sound of a train going by doesn't bother you (regretably, being a railfan that is not the best of situations either, especially if you are wanting to watch a train at night).
Back then I had good hearing, today not so... sure wished I could have seen a few of the trains I heard about from others, but didn't hear my own self.
