CHRISTIANSBURG

   Christiansburg, Va., Dec. 28 - Special - There are only four 
hundred feet in the bench of the Alleghany tunnel of the Virginian 
railway, near here, to finish. The work will all be done by February 
1st. Although the force has been reduced, McArthur Bros. have pushed 
the work, and last week took out one hundred feet, taking out 
thirty-seven in one day. When one pays a visit to this place and sees 
how immense the boulders are, and the enormous amount of rock to be 
gone through, this record seems a little short marvelous.
