CSX handles container traffic out of Tidewater from Portsmouth on the former SAL/SCL line to Garysburg, NC, then onto the mainline. It handles no such traffic on the Newport News side. There is no container terminal on that side of Hampton Roads.

NS handles a great deal of Tidewater container traffic, from both Portsmouth and Norfolk terminals.
