PETERSBURG IRON WORKS SOLD TO N. & W. R. R.

Petersburg, Va., Oct. 29 - It is rumored that the Petersburg Iron
Works property, north of Old Street and adjoining the Norfolk and
Western freight yards, has been sold to the railroad company, and
that the railroad will use the property to improve its freight
facilities in this city. The machinery was not included in the deal.
During the Spanish-American war the Petersburg Iron Works
manufactured 15-inch projectiles for the United States navy. The
company closed down shortly after the war ended.
