It's almost here! Just one week from today, will be
the annual Gaithersburg, MD Railroadianna Train Show
and the newly added model train show with it as well!
If you have never visited this once a year event, you
don't know what you've been missing all these years. I
have seen just about everything there EXCEPT a full
size diesel or steam locomotive and I think I have
seen signs advertising them a few times. Passenger and
freight cars I haven't seen either but signs offering
them for sale I have.
That doesn't count the CSX Metropolitan Sub right next
to the fairgrounds with plenty of freight action
daily, the two Capitol Limited Amtrak trains daily
plus the MARC Commuters on Friday.
Various items "rescued" from junk yards, scrap bins,
country auctions, estate sales such as grade cossing
signals, signs; all sorts of books, videos, magazines,
timetables both employee and public, railroad china,
uniforms, cap badges, pins; and that doesn't even
begin just to scratch the surface of what you're
liable to find there. If the railroad printed it or
issued it or made it; you are likely to find it there
.... or at least a piece of it.
A number of historical societies will be in presence
there as well offering their wares, too.
On the modeling end several module groups will be
present there so kids of all ages can see the smaller
scale goodies in action as well purchase supplies and
models for their layouts.
The Montgomery County fairgrounds are located just off
of Interstate 270 and about a mile south of Exit 11 on
Route 355, sort of behind the IHOP.
Friday and Saturday and before 9 am Sunday are
reserved for the dealers setting up as well as the
really serious collectors of railroad "stuff" for to
gain entry during that time it will take $35 but after
9 am Sunday, just $7 gets you into the whole thing.
Just remember, the early bird gets the worm, so you
don't want to be left out.
See you there ... and for you Football fans, don't
forget that the big games don't start until AT LEAST 1
PM Sunday, so there will be plenty of time for your
Holiday shopping before the big games and barring some
unforseen event, the Boston Red Sox will be the World
Champions of the World Series for 2007.
See you in Gaithersburg next weekend; THE place to be!
