Several years ago when there was an article in The Arrow on
Shenandoah Junction, I researched the archives of the Shepherdstown
Register newspaper for stories on the construction of the Shenandoah
Valley. It was clear that SV crossed the B&O mainline on a trestle
from the beginning, and never at grade.

What I cannot prove is what I heard from some retired N&W employees
who were elders in the 1950's: That the B&O would not cooperate with
SV in crossing their line in any manner. The story I was told is
that SV had everything built to cross over the B&O and set the bridge
in place on a Sunday when B&O could not get a court order to stop
them. The newspaper articles did not mention this. I would like to
find something in print to confirm this.
