NO OTHER TRAINS
N. & W. and Southern Will Not Put on Fast Train
Several days ago there appeared in the Charlotte Observer a news item
which emanated from Chattanooga, to the effect that the Norfolk & Western,
in juncture with the Southern, would soon put on a fast train from
Chattanooga to Washington by way of the Shenandoah valley.
One of The Times' reportorial staff called at the N. & W. offices
yesterday afternoon to have the report confirmed or denied. It was stated
at Mr. Bevill's office that no such thing will be done, that no more trains
will be added soon to the present list of passenger trains.
During the summer months the N. & W. have been putting in mail cranes
along the Shenandoah division, and not withstanding the denial made at the
offices yesterday, some are inclined to believe that these cranes are being
put in for this fast train. They argue that such are not needed under the
present schedule as all trains stop along the Shenandoah line. Time will tell.
