The commercial was filmed at the Farmville station (try doing that now!) and featured local people in some key roles, including Farmville fire chief Phillip Gay as the band leader. I think it was called "Hero returns home" and was about the return of a hometown boy who went away and made good.

The F unit in the Pepsi commercial was in the January 1980 issue of Trains. A member of the Winston-Salem chapter NRHS took the picture. In fact I used just a couple of months ago in an issue of our newsletter. I will dig out the picture and post it.

>The one picture I saw many years ago, in Trains, that I have been unsuccessful in following up, was a view through a door of the nose of a unit (looked black, but it was a B&W picture) with a block 70s style NW.The caption referred to it as "CNJ (N&W)".

I believe that the photo that you are referring to is of a Clinchfield F-unit that was painted solid black with white NW lettering. This was done for a Pepsi commercial, after which the unit was repainted in the black and yellow scheme.
