Yes, I was being sarchastic. It should have been obvious.
If a passenger train did 79mph on the Bristol line through some of these curves, the passengers would be spilled all over the floor, as would their cocktails! This would not be good for the politicians along for the ride now, would it?

Well, actually, no. I suspect that was a tongue-in-cheek statement, but there may be folks new to the industry who would benefit from some serious observations:
1. The track has to be up to FRA class standards for the desired speed.
2. Without ATC/cab signal, the top speed is 79 mph, period, end of discussion.
3. I don't know what the normal Bristol line passenger MAS is per Employee Timetable. I THINK, but those of you who really know should correct me if I'm wrong, that so long as 1 & 2 are met, a special order could be issued for higher than normal MAS for a special run.
