Mike,

871 is N&W EMD SD40 High Hood 1590. It was built in June of 1966 under order # 5707
My source is the N&W Second Generation Diesels book, Pages 98-99.
Hope this helps. Also, there is another slug # 870 which is N&W EMD SD40 High Hood 1586. These are the only two N&W units that are used for remote control ops.

38Q had this freshly painted unit behind its power when it came into
