OIL TRUSTS OWNS NEW RAILROAD

  Raleigh, N.C., June 4, -- During the last Legislature a charter was 
granted to the Raleigh and Winston-Salem Railroad Company and it is 
now reported that the charter was in reality procured for the Norfolk 
and Southern, which is building a line from Raleigh to Norfolk, 
through eastern North Carolina.
   The intention of the company is reported to be to connect with the 
Norfolk and Western at Winston and the route will be as to directness 
regardless of towns. The company wants this line so as to have a 
direct connection with the coal fields. This road is said to be 
backed by the Standard Oil Company.
