NEARING COMPLETION

Tidewater Freight Station Nearly Ready for Occupancy

The new freight station for the Tidewater railroad in this city is about
completed and while not as large as that of the other roads is a very
commodious
depot and is built of brick and of the latest model. The tracks are being laid
to the depot and it will only be a short while until it will be put in use as a
storage place for material that will be used. The water tank is also about
completed and the foundation for the turn table, which is located
near the tank,
is completed and the work of putting in the superstructure has commenced.
The main line tracks have been completed between Roanoke and Salem and work
has commenced on the two bridges which it will be necessary to build. Grading
for additional tracks in the vicinity of the freight station and also for the
location of the passenger station on the east side of Jefferson street is in
progress and this work will be completed as soon as possible. It is expected to
have trains operating as far as Roanoke this fall.
