THIRD CAFE CAR COMPLETED
Incandescent Mantle Gas Lamp the Distinguishing Feature
The third of a series of four cafe cars being built by the Norfolk
& Western,
in now completed and is being equipped and stored for its initial trip sometime
next week.
These cars are well suited to the purpose which they are built.
They are very
handsomely furnished and are equipped with every thing that could add to the
comfort of weary travelers. The cars are severely plain, but the material is of
such quality that the lack of adornment is the chief adornment. All
the woodwork
is of highly refined oak, with tables and chairs to match. Each table is
supplied with individual sets and a handsomely engraved water bottle holder. In
each of these holders there is always to be found a picturesque bottle of extra
Lithia water which is furnished to the patrons free of charge.
The distinguishing feature of this third car is that it is lighted by the
inverted incandescent mantle gas lamps. One of the great troubles
with traveling
is that the trains are poorly lighted and a strain on the eyes is consequent.
This car will be brilliantly lighted by six globes in each of which there are
four of the lights mentioned above. These mantle lights are to be used in this
car as an experiment.
