Mergers probably had a great deal to do with CSX no longer going to
Gilbert Yard.  Pre-1959, VGN had several option of routing coal  to
the midwest -- NYC via Dickinson,  N&W or C&O via the  Gilbert
gateway and probably others.  Now with the disposition of  Conrail,  much
of the coal can route to destination on a one-line haul.  Why divide  the
revenue ?
