INSTANTLY KILLED BY AN EXPLOSION
H.H. Waitley, superintendent of construction in charge of Lipscomb's
camp on the Tidewater railroad, in Bedford county, was instantly
killed and several others more or less injured, though none
seriously, by an explosion of dynamite late Wednesday afternoon. Mr.
Charlton Oakey left Wednesday night at 8 and did not get back to the
city with the remains until 1 o'clock yesterday morning. They will be
prepared for burial here and will be shipped on the morning train to
Indianola, Neb.
Mr. Waitley was one of the most valuable men with Messrs. Lipscomb
and his place will be difficult to fill.
