Hello Dave
I was at Ft. Eustis with the 714th from 69-70. Were you there at the same
time? I recently pulled out my old files for a brief presentation at the
Piedmont Division of the NMRA meeting last month and it brought back old memories
- including an ill-advised handcar trip around the James Division with
another new 2LT. If I remember right it was in June or July on a hot Sunday
afternoon.

Ex Army yes, but more likely hospital car. Looks very much like the one I
inspected at Ft. Eustis circa 1968 when the Army was deactivating them.

After asking another source, the answer is....ex-Army kitchen car. Amtrak
bought them for baggage dorm cars.
Now did NS or Conrail buy it from Amtrak?
