With side panels gone from both E8s, it is difficult to tell them
apart, but one is indeed Wabash (1009) donated by the N&W to the City
of Roanoke in 1966 and one is RF&P, whose number I don't immediately
recall.
If I recall correctly, in May of 2000, VMT agreed to give the RF&P unit
to Roanoke Chapter with the intent of it being restored as an N&W/RF&P
unit, and placed back, on loan to VMT. The 1009 was to be stored with
the RF&P unit. The agreement was a no cash deal, just to get the bad
looking equipment out of Museum property. VMT was to arrange movement
of the two to the Chapter's maintenance facility, but NS refused to
handle the units without working brakes in the terminal. Nothing has
happened since then, so the units sit in Roanoke yard.
