The March 9,1919 Employee Time Table for the Norfolk Division (thank you
Gordon Hamilton) gives the Tonnage Rating of Locomotives in the Durham District
for locomotive classes T (620), G (520), and F (470). Ratings for classes
Z1, M, M2 and W are listed for the rest of that Division. Are the numbers in
the ( ) measures of tons and the total weight of the locomotive? This suggests
to me that the class Ms and Z1s and heavier locomotives were not seen in the
Durham District during that time. Is that a correct assumption? Also what
class locomotives would be used for passenger service in 1919? At the time
there were scheduled passenger and mixed trains each day. Were the class V, E
and E1s used in passenger service along this light weight line and not the
K1s?

I am interested in operations and the nature of the Durham District during
this time period. It is an important period of development in the area and in
my own family history.

Thank you,
Chuck Stewart
