Maybe you have enjoyed April in Paris but have you enjoyed November
in Mullens before?
From November 3 through 5, 2006, the completion of the first 59
miles of Deepwater trackage to Mullens on November 4, 1906, will be
celebrated! Our own Jack Feller of Mullens is leading the organizers
and sponsors of the event; the City of Mullens, Mullens Chamber of
Commerce, Rural Appalachian League (RAIL) and the Virginian
Brotherhood of Railfans of Mullens in the planning of the "Centennial
Celebration 1906 to 2006." The base for the event will be at the
beautiful Twin Falls State Park, just north of Mullens.
The preliminary plans are subject to change, Jack says, but
nonetheless they give us an idea of what to expect.
* Friday: A half day walking tour of historic Mullens downtown. The
307 caboose museum will be open and it is hoped for the electric
motor barn to be open.
* Friday evening: Program presented "H.H.Rogers Builds the Deepwater Railway."
* Saturday: A full day bus tour along the Deepwater with stops along
the way. Guide on the bus. Lunch in the Beckley area.
* Saturday alternate activity offered for retired employees: Picnic
in Mullens.
* Saturday evening: Dinner Theater! An original play with the
building of the Deepwater as the central theme!
* Sunday: Half day car caravan tour along the Winding Gulf line with
guides. Tour will end in Beckley.
Fees are not determined yet, but Jack says they will be reasonable.
More news will be announced soon. But for now, mark your calendars!
The contact is Jack Feller, Box 295, Mullens, WV. 25882 before Oct.
28, 2006. Fax number is 304-294-4004.
Attendees must make their own room reservations. The Twin Falls State
Park is holding only 18 rooms @$53.00 per night until October 3,
2006. Call 1-800-call-wva for room reservations! Say, "Twin Falls
Park," advise "Virginian Rail Fan."
