In the book "Our GM Scrapbook" from Kalmbach, the term "calf" is used for
the cabless engines in the TR line of switch engines. The "calf" units did
have their own diesel engines, unlike the "slugs" of today.

I thought a 'cow and calf' pair had only one prime mover; but both units
used the generator output. Possible because the intended use was at low
speed; high HP was not required.
