Factors of adhesion-

A @ 275 psi - 4.12
A @ 300 psi - 3.79
J @ 275 psi - 3.93
J @ 300 psi - 3.60
Y5, Y6 - 3.44 starting, simple

Caution on specifications used to calculate FA
(FA=weight on drivers/tractive effort). Sometimes
weight on drivers can vary depending on the source.
In Trains mag, Feb 1987, an article on 4-8-4's lists
the J's weight on drivers as 275,000 lbs, which would
give an FA of 3.44. Where that figure came from, I
don't know. It's not correct according to N&W's
locomotive diagrams.
