Evening All -

After delivering a shiny new American LaFrance fire truck to the Hampden-Sydney Vol. Fire Department this afternoon, I spent some time investigating progress on the abandonment of the Farmville line. Below is a summary.

- I found crews working in the little hamlet of Prospect. They were busy repairing the exhaust on a piece of MOW equipment, hence I wasn't able to talk to anyone.

- Ties have been pulled from Shields to just east of Prospect. They are pulling two, leaving one, pulling two, leaving one..........

- Spikes have been pulled from Shields to Prospect as well.

- Two MOW cranes were stacking ties just west of Prospect at milepost 163.

- A large tree (and I do mean LARGE) has fallen across the tracks about 50 yards west of the Rt. 610 grade crossing at the 138 milepost. Obviously this occured since the last train operated through here a few weeks ago.
