Bill:

What do you mean by stating that SP " . . . ran ex-N&W SD45s . . . "?

1. Operated them to run off HP hours owed by the SD45s' owners?

2. Bought or leased ex-N&W SD45s?

I'm far from a real expert in SP diesels, but SP has been my hometown
(SF Bay Area) RR from 1957 until UP choked on it . I'd be very
surprised if SP bought any second hand and a little surprised if SP
ever leased any. As the owner of the biggest fleet of '45s, many SP
machines went elsewhere, but . . .

Despite its troubles in its final days, SP rarely (if ever) bought
second-hand power, although it may have leased some (from Helm?) during
power crises.

Willing to be surprised, however.
