Andy,

Electrics:

EL-3A were not renumbered and were retired in Feb 1960 and scrapped.
EL-2B were four two-cab units numbered 125 through 128 for the Virginian. The cabs were serial numbered 37 through 44 with each successive group of two's being combined as a locomotive on th VGN. The N&W renumbered each individual cab as follows: 37/221, 39/222, 41/223, 43/224, 38/225, 40/226, 42/227 and 44/228.
EL-C were VGN numbers 130-141 and became N&W 230-241.

Diesels:

DE-RS were VGN numbers 50-74 and became N&W 150-174.
DE-S were numbered for the VGN, at the time of merger, 10-22, 24-27 and 29-49; were renumbered to N&W 110-122, 124-127 and 129-149.
Small diesel switcher, number 6, was sold in May 1960 and not renumbered to N&W.

The former VGN electrification was de-energized/inactivated in June 1962 and scrapped.

I have a question for all you gurus out thar!!

What numbering system did the N&W use on the Virginian locomotives after the merger??

And when did the N&W pull the plug on electric operations?

Specifically what did they re-number the EL2B's too?

  Thank you, for your time!!!
