Type of passenger coaches used on the Durham District in the '50s?

What class of passenger coaches were used in the Durham District in the  
1950s.  Were they Pgs or Pjs, or something else?
 
I am looking to model the Durham District during the '50s, especially  around 
1954.  I would like to learn details of the types of  passenger cars used, so 
would any of the list subscribers be so kind  as to suggest references for 
this.
